2011 Fall Fashion Trends: Ruffles

In 2011 Fashion Trends, About Scarves, Fashion Scarves, Get the Look, Women's Scarves on September 28, 2011 at 9:34 pm

Ruffles are the perfect choice for every woman who wants to add a touch of creativity and feminine charm to her everyday style. Not only that, ruffles are perfect for hiding certain imperfections, like masking a bloated tummy for example, or creating the illusion of a perfect silhouette. It’s no wonder they are one of this season’s hottest trends.

Here at La Purse we have a weakness for ruffles – as you can see by browsing our scarf collections – so we have decided to present you with a couple of gorgeous ruffle fashion items, from clothing pieces to fashion accessories, all extremely stylish and at affordable prices. They are cute, fun and fashionable and we recommend you give ruffles a try this season!

Start with a flirty ruffled top, preferably in a bright color. This will soon become your go-to item since it is perfect for every occasion. Wear it with jeans and flats for a cute and comfy look and make your transition to nigh by pairing it with a black blazer, high-heeled pumps and statement accessories.

Ruffled Woven Top ($14.80) from Forever 21

Every girl needs at least one pretty dress is her wardrobe so why not opt for a ruffled one? It works perfectly as a summer dress and you can easily transition it into fall by pairing it with a pair of tights and a cardigan.

Women’s Ruffled Chiffon Dresses ($15.97) from Old Navy

Ruffled skirts are so much fun to wear, you’ll find yourself wanting to wear them all the time! Just give them try and you’ll see what we’re talking about.

Women’s Plus Ruffled Chiffon Skirts (Now $16.97) from Old Navy

Free People ‘Cascade’ Convertible Maxi Skirt ($34.97) from Nordstrom

You’ll be needing a new jacket for fall so why not opt for a stylish faux leather jacket with beautiful ruffle details?

Ruffle-Trimmed Pleather Jacket ($44.99) from Charlotte Russe

We have a feeling the ruffle blazer will become fall 2011 staple wardrobe piece. Feminine, elegant and stylish, this piece will add a touch of creativity to your business and casual outfits.

ELLE™ Ruffle Blazer (sale $38.40) from Kohl’s

The trench coat is an absolute must-have. Add a spin to the classic trench coat with ruffle details to make your fall outfit stand out in a crowd.

Ruffle Trim Trench Coat ($79.00) from Piperlime

Long Ruffle Trench Coat ($67.50) from Last Call by Neiman Marcus

Ruffle scarves are a gorgeous accessory, especially for fall. They will keep you warm and stylish all season long and during winter as well so if you’re loving ruffle details these are the fashion accessories you should invest in. Opt for a ruffle knit infinity to spice up your casual outfits and for a radiant satin ruffle scarf to add a double dose of elegance to your glam outfits.

Infinity Ruffle Scarf ($14.95) from La Purse

Satin Ruffle Scarf ($18.45) from La Purse

Pom Pom Ruffle Scarf ($14.95) from La Purse

Guest Blog: Fall Fashion According To The Stylish LittleLimeDress

In 2011 Fashion Trends, 2012 Fashion Trends, About Scarves, Fashion Scarves, Get the Look, Women's Scarves on September 23, 2011 at 3:35 pm

We are beyond excited to present you with a fabulous guest blog post by the lovely Meaghan from LittleLimeDress.com. Just in time for fall, Meaghan has created four stylish looks consisting of this season’s key pieces, each look under $200. Scroll down because you’re in for a fall fashion treat!

When the fabulous La Purse team came and asked me to do a style piece for the La Purse blog, I was thrilled. I have been in a serious tweeting relationship with the LP team for a while now, and a post for their blog was just the thing to show I am committed ;) In all seriousness though, I was excited to do a post and immediately started browsing their site for which scarves I would pull. Then panic set in, how was I supposed to narrow down all these options? It took a while, but I narrowed down my choices to four fabulous pieces that are perfect for any fashionistas wardrobe. I often start building my look around accessories, and so the below picks were built from the scarf down. The looks are my personal vision and style, but the scarves were my inspiration. Here are four looks, built around La Purse scarves, all under $200!

 Look 1:

Colorblocking is not going anywhere for fall and winter, and what better way to work the trend than with a fun, playful scarf like this textured knot scarf with oval patterns in a fall inspired mustard color. I paired the scarf with a simple, more relaxed white blouse from Old Navy as a base for the mustard. The fun thing about this blouse is the round neck, long sleeves with button cuff and button tab to roll up the sleeve for a more casual look. I opted for this blouse instead of a classic button-down to give the look a more laid-back vibe. I then chose to color block the scarf with blue cropped slim fit trousers from Asos. I love the rolled cuff in the trouser, it makes the look playful and chic. Finally, keep your shoes (and handbag) neutral so not to take away from the look itself. I found these tan platform pumps for $35 from Payless; a great deal for stylish and versatile pump!

Mustard Textured Scarf, La Purse, $18

White Blouse, Old Navy, $30

Blue Slim Cropped Trousers, Asos, $37

Women’s Komet Platform Pump, Payless, $35

Total Cost of Look 1: $120

Look 2:

I started look two with the vibrant red striped lycra/viscose scarf. I had a hard time choosing the color for this scarf, but ultimately ended up with this red one. The colors reminded me of the leaves changing and the deep richness there is to the fall season. I paired the card with this chiffon maxi skirt from Forever 21. I love the idea of a chiffon maxi skirt. Ladylike, comfortable and versatile, the chiffon maxi is a great addition to a fall/winter wardrobe. It can be dressed up, or worn casual and while it may not seem like a simple base piece to build a look on, it is! At only $12.50, you can try out the look without breaking the bank. Wear the skirt with a classic turtleneck in a cream color. Not only will you get a million wears out of this Banana Republic turtleneck, but the color is a great base for all the other scarves in this post as well! I absolutely love the idea of mixing hard and soft, and so I chose to complete this look with a rugged ankle bootie from Piperlime. This is a great way to rock a rugged boot. Pair it with jeans, trousers, mini skirts & more.

Vibrant Red Stripped Lycra Viscose Scarf, La Purse, $18.45

Chiffon Maxi Skit, Forever21, $12.50

Essential Turtleneck, Banana Republic, $60

‘Velora’ by Blowfish Rugged Ankle Bootie, Piperlime, $69

Total Cost of Look 2: $160

Look 3, The Plus Size Look:

I always love to incorporate a plus size look into my styling, and while any of these looks can be translated to plus size, here is a specific look I designed around the La Purse double layer mixed purple print scarf. This scarf is so versatile, you can really wear it this  anything from from a white tee shirt and jeans to a wear to work dress, like this 2 in 1 pleated skirt dress from Asos. This dress is a great piece for the curvy girl’s closet, with a fitted bodice and high waistline it is a flattering silhouette and it isn’t bound to a specific season. Wear it through the fall and winter with boots, tights and blazers and bring it back into spring with bare legs and sandals. I thought the best way to “winterize” this look is with black opaque tights and these wedge ankle booties by Coconuts from Piperlime. If you don’t, for some strange reason, have a pair of black opaque tights you need to get them immediately. Seriously, please do not go another day without adding this simple basic hosiery choice into your wardrobe. The possibilities for your closet are endless when you have hosiery options. Throw a pair of tights under shorts, mini skirt, dresses for work- anything. Use your imagination, find inspiration and change your look for less than $20. Not feeling the wedge ankle bootie? Wear this look with pumps, flats or even boots- it is up to you, just be sure to be confident in whatever you decide! The best part of this outfit? You can rock this look to work and wear it right into the evening for drinks with friends!

Double Layer Purple Print Scarf, La Purse, $19

2 in 1 Pleated Skirt Dress, Asos, $59

‘Josie’ Ankle Booties by Coconuts, Piperlime, $79

Black Opaque Tights, Torrid, $15

Total Cost of Look 3: $172

Look 4:

Getting dressed for a night out on the town with friends is one of my favorite things to do. There are so many options, so many fun ways to express myself, and so many accessories! I am usually a statement piece kind of girl, whether it is a huge necklace, bold earrings, or a playful scarf worn the right way, I love adding that final wow piece to my look. The lightweight metallic silver dot scarf is def one of those pieces. For $19, it can change an entire look. I chose this scarf to pair with these skinny jeans I found on Piperlime by Levis Curve. I have blogged about Levis Curve before, while they don’t fit me as a plus size 18, they certainly fit a ton of my clients and they love them. If you haven’t had the time to try them, I recommend it. The utility button up tunic from Forever 21 seemed like a great going-out top to me; lightweight, slightly oversized in that sexy way, and affordable enough where if you ruin it- its ok. Finish the look with a knee high heeled riding boot for that fall fashion effortless style we all hope to achieve.

Lightweight metallic silver dot scarf, La Purse, $19

Levis Curve Skinny Jeans, Piperlime, $55

Utility Button up Tunic, Forever 21, $25

Divine’ by Very Volatile Boot, Piperlime, $79

Total Cost of Look 4: 178

Fashion trends appear and disappear on a daily basis; most of them barely lasting a couple of weeks. However, there are styles that are forever trendy, always beautiful and always fashionable. In 2011 Fashion Trends, About Scarves, Fashion Scarves, Get the Look, Pashmina Scarves, Pashmina Shawls and Scarves, Summer Scarves, Women's Scarves on July 22, 2011 at 6:09 pm

During summer we are all about minimal clothing: basic T-shirts, maxi dresses, cute skirts and gladiator sandals. The heat isn’t really allowing us to load up on clothes or rock the “layering” trend we all love so much so the only thing left to do to make our looks pop is accessorizing.

First, there’s statement jewelry. You can’t go through summer without enriching your jewelry collection with a couple of statement necklaces, cocktail rings and big earrings.

Second, we love statement scarves. These are perfect for summer evenings, when the weather cools a little and you need extra coverage. Here are our top ten statement scarves and since these pieces speak for themselves, we’ll let you decide if you love them as much as we do:

Go neon, or go home! Neon Orange Pashmina Shawl, $24.95

How To Shop For The Perfect Scarf For You

In 2011 Fashion Trends, About Scarves, Fashion Scarves, Pashmina Scarves, Pashmina Shawls and Scarves, Summer Scarves, Women's Scarves on July 6, 2011 at 3:57 pm

Women’s scarves can easily turn an otherwise lifeless outfit into a fashion-forward look without having to spend a ton of money on pricey accessories or anything like that. It’s easy to put on a beautiful scarf and come up with a breathtaking look!

However, shopping for the perfect scarf that suits you in every way: style, color, and fabric, has to be done a certain way. You should know that a scarf can make your look but it can also break it. Meaning that if you buy a scarf just because it is trendy; without paying attention to any other details, chances are you’ll end up ruining your look.

Scarves are usually worn very close to your face so you must check to see if the color is flattering your skin tone and if the style suits your personality. The most important is that you feel comfortable with your newly purchased scarf.

Here’s a set of useful tips to keep in mind when shopping for fashion scarves:

1. Go For The Basics

You can’t  go wrong with a stylish basic scarf, such as cashmere pashmina shawls, in a solid color like black and white or neutrals such as beige, walnut or ivory cream.

These pashminas are timeless pieces that will get you from winter to spring and look well with pretty much anything else in your closet. Sure, they are a safe choice, but better be safe than sorry.

2. Shop For Fashion Scarves To Update Your Collection

If you are a scarf collector, chances are you’re always searching for the latest fashion scarves. As you’re shopping for new scarves to add to your collection, here are some important things to keep in mind:

- Don’t over do it with colors. If you plan to wear a colored outfit, don’t pair it with a multi-colored scarf because it’s just too much. Opt either for a multi-colored scarf to go with a simple outfit, or choose a scarf that features only one of the colors of your outfit.

- Shop for a neon colored scarf to add that much needed pop of color to your look!

- Do a little bit of research before you hit the stores and find out which designs are trending right now and choose the ones that suit you best.

3. Fabrics To Shop For: cashmere, cotton, silk, wool, mohair or viscose. Opt for fabrics that not only look good, but also feel good. Remember, you’ll be wearing the scarf close to your skin.

4. Shop For Colors That Complement Your Skin Tone

5. Expensive scarves aren’t always the best ones, so search for affordable high quality. There are plenty online stores that offer a wide range of quality fashion scarves at great prices.

Happy scarf shopping!

The Reason Why We Love Scarves

In About Scarves, Fashion Scarves, Pashmina Scarves, Pashmina Shawls and Scarves, Summer Scarves, Women's Scarves on May 27, 2011 at 4:16 pm

Happy Friday everyone!

This started out as a great day for us here at La Purse headquarters as we came across a fantastic article entitled “Scarves Succeed as the Ultimate Fashion Multitaskers.”

Knowing how much we’ve been telling you all how scarves are the most versatile fashion accessory and how you ladies can wear them any way you’d like and pair them with everything else in your wardrobe made us feel like maybe we were being a bit too insistent. So we decided to take some time off from promoting the versatility of the scarves and focus on other fabulous fashion items. And so we did. But this morning we discovered this article in the New York Times and couldn’t resist sharing the news with you.

Needless to say, we agree 100% with the author. Scarves were, are and will forever be the most versatile fashion accessory. And that’s exactly why we love them.

Don’t belive us? Grab one of your scarves or a pashmina shawl and experiment a little.

Turn your scarf into:

1. A headband. And a series of other hair accessories like bows, for example.

2. A turban.

3. A waist belt.

4. A sarong.

5. A beach cover-up.

6. A cowl neck.

7.  Halters.

8. A Shrug

9. Even a sexy halter dress!

10. Nursing blanket.

11. Bridal shawl.

12. Evening shawl.

And much more!

Already feeling inspired? Go ahead, take an oversized scarf and start twisting, looping and knotting and re-create all the above and more.

Who knows, maybe you’ll come up with a new scarf trend!

Do you agree that scarves are the most versatile fashion accessories?

Easy, Breezy Summer Scarves

In 2011 Fashion Trends, About Scarves, Fashion Scarves, Pashmina Scarves, Pashmina Shawls and Scarves, Summer Scarves, Women's Scarves on May 18, 2011 at 1:38 pm

If you are a huge fan of wearing scarves like we are, chances are you love wearing them all year long, even during the summer. And just like us, you’re constantly searching for easy, breezy scarves you can wear even during the warm season without feeling too hot or uncomfortable. Well, let us tell you a secret: now it’s easier than ever to shop for lightweight scarves that are perfectly wearable even during sunny summer days. They offer coverage from the damaging UV rays and when the sun sets they gently protect you from the chilly weather.

Since our summer wardrobe consists mostly of maxi dresses, T-shirts, short shorts and other types of summer clothing, a scarf can add that much needed pop of color to your summer outfit. For example, a maxi dress in a solid color looks amazing when paired with a cute scarf in a bright color. And how about accessorizing your tee and jeans with a funky lightweight scarf? Your outfit will instantly go from OK to fabulous!

Here is a set of lightweight scarves that can enhance your summer look instantly:

The Handmade Crochet Scaf – this one is perfect for those of you who are looking to achieve that romantic boho-chic look. Pair it with your blue jeans and you’re good to go!

Blue Handmade Crochet Scarf   ($34.99)

The Double Layered Silk Print Scarf – the name might say double layered, but trust us, this scarf is easy as a feather and it feels incredible. You can go wild with your summer outfit and opt for a chic animal print scarf or for a scarf in a hot summer color like fuchsia or green.

Blue Double Layered Animal Print Silk Scarf ($18.95)

Double Layered Fuchsia & Blue Print Silk Scarf ($18.95)

The Light Weight Scarf – is, by definition, the perfect summer scarf. It’s light, soft and super easy to wear. For a great day time look you can opt for a nude color such as walnut, while for the evening we recommend adding a touch of sparkle.

Another reason why lightweight scarves are so popular during the summer is that they can easily be worn as cover ups and sarongs at the beach.

Light Weight Walnut Scarf ($9.95)

Light Weight Metallic Silver Dot Orange Scarf ($18.95)

Hope you have enjoyed the selection!

Do you wear scarves during the summer? If the answer is “Yes”, tell us about your favorite summer scarves. If not, why not?
